2013-03-14, If anyone has nectiod Tulane has been running a media blitz like crazy the past few weeks. Part of it was to refute any contention that Tulane did not investigate alternatives to building the stadium on the proposed site and to claim that renovating and using Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park, an option that some people have suggested, was not possible. From my own point of view, though, I came to the conclusion long ago that building just about ANY football stadium on campus is not practical and the reasons are the lack of parking, an inadequate infrastructure for handling the volume of traffic, existing buildings on campus leaving an insufficient space for it, i.e. all issues that the neighbors have brought to light. The size of the stadium, though, as proposed and according to what Tulane has said, 25,000 seating plus 5,000 standing room, is a major issue within the Tulane community and, whatever the neighbors would like, is still pretty small for a major college football program. In fact, the stadium supporter contingent are really desperate for their part to convince everyone else in the Tulane community that the stadium can be expanded and will be expanded, a notion that I find very doubtful considering the actual space of the site in question. As to possibly building the stadium elsewhere on campus there really is not any other possible site considering the existing construction. My contention has long been that if Tulane simply must play in a venue other than the Superdome then that venue should be a renovated Tad Gormley or a completely new stadium somewhere off campus where Tulane as acquired the property and has sufficient space for a decent-sized stadium, say, around 40-45,000 capacity, and also for parking.
